 Best of class! December 29, 2007
I'm a fairly basic excel user (but not an eejit, as some authors believe!), so have found it difficult to find a text aimed squarely at my level - with lots of scope to develop. Very good sections on formatting, formulas, functions, charting etc., all written in a very accessible style. Bill Jelen is called "Mr. Excel" and once you buy this book you'll understand why. Will keep me busy for quite some time to come, not sure what things you could do with Excel when you go beyond intermediate level!
Perfect for Excel 2003 experts/intermediates February 12, 2007

A very thick book, which is described as a User Level of "Beginner-Intermediate". Whilst the material therein is at that level, it is really for the Intermediate-Experts for Excel 2003 who know that the user interface for Excel 2007 has completely changed, and some of the features have been improved - but which ones?
The first 19 chapters, 384 pages, answers these questions. It has a 9 1/2 page table showing where things in 2003 are in 2007 (e.g. Where is Tools - Spelling? It is in Review, Proofing, Spelling), and goes in some detail about the improved functions.
The remainder of the book, 19 pages, 639 pages, details the data functions, both in terms of the Solver or Goal Seek, and in terms of functions like ISPMT. However, because there are only 5 new functions in 2007, this half may not be interesting as the first half except as a reference. However, it also helps for the 89 Analysis Toolpack functions which were an add-in in 2003, but built-in in 2007.
Overall, the first half did what I wanted it to do, and did it well. The second half - I could have lived without it, but without that, it would not have been "The only Excel book you need".
