Is this guy from this planet? One of the best books ever! Not to mention his website which gives a lot of extra freebies! John made reading his book a pleasure not a torture. No doubt it is the best book around!
Excellent Resource for up and coming VBA programmers June 10, 2003 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
I'd already cut my teeth writing macros on a couple of databases I was using. I'd started by recording macro's using excels built in recorder, and then looking at the code and trying to work out what did what. But pretty soon I hit brick walls, and needed something to help me understand what was going on properly and walkenbach came to the rescue! This book is aimed exactly at the level I was looking for: someone who is computer literate and has a moderate level of VBA programming experience. The book leads you through the *very* basics before building on the knowledge step by step and eventually becomes just a reference for when you really get stuck or just forget a command. Its absolutely perfect for learning from, and even now, when I would consider myself capable of solving any excel problem using VBA, is a really useful resource. Get it. It won't be money wasted!
Excellent resource for learning VBA January 7, 2003 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
Being a long time Excel user with some programming background (but not in VBA), I found this book to be an excellent way to learn VBA. Actually, most of the time I have found it difficult to put it down!Admittedly, it is voluminous, so if you want to get to the point quickly, it can be a little frustrating. On the other hand, it is full of helpful tips, so I find it well worth the time spent.
Informative, straightforward and relevant November 8, 2001 30 out of 30 found this review helpful
As a reasonably proficient Excel user who has learnt a few bits of VBA by recording macros and jiggling the code, I found this book to be an excellent resource for the step into writing proper code. As I came across different real-life problems I was able to find the answers quickly and almost without fail. I consider this the acid test of a manual such as this.I even finally read the introduction and gained insight into objects, properties and the like which helped enormously. My only criticism would be the very lengthy introductory chapters - the author states that the book assumes a reasonable knowledge of Excel and then spends 6 chapters and over 100 pages introducing Excel! The writing style is a model of clarity with some nice light touches (no patronising 'VBA for dummies' humour). Very highly recommended

Just got it, easy to use and follow, full of very usefull instructions on the advanced features but also suitable for the beginner with an inquisitive mind. Good exaples of the application of VBA in Excel.
