brilliant chutneys & jams October 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
this is a great book to have on the shelf when the urge to be a domestic goddess hits you, or perhaps you have a ton of spare fruit or veg and don't want it to go to waste. The book is organised seasonally so there is always something to look at and you can enjoy making preserves all year round. I have tried a few of the recipies and am hooked already. The simple mincement is really that - simple but very tasty! Also has good advice on the basics of jam making and what kit you need. Well worth the money.
Nice recipes February 21, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I really liked this book. There are some nice recipes in it. I have tried 3 of the chutney recipes so far and they have all been lovely and easy to make. The book isinformative and nicely laid out. Definately worth a look.
More Jam then Pickles & Chutney June 22, 2007 16 out of 19 found this review helpful
I was hoping for more information on pickles & chutney but the book is biased towards jams - 65% jams 35% pickles & chutneys
Very useful February 9, 2007 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
As a complete novice when it comes to jams and preserving I have found this book a very useful introduction. There is plenty of information on equipment, ingredients and techniques before commencing. I am sure this is a book I will keep returning to throughout the year. I would have thought it would also be fairly useful for those with more preserving experience - the recipes are all, I believe, from WI members so will have had plenty of testing before being added to the book. Not possibly the most adventurous combinations, but more than adequate for a beginner like me!
Brilliant August 23, 2004 32 out of 33 found this review helpful
I really love this book. I have bought this together with that of Mr Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's (River Cottage Cookbook) and have prepared masses of jars that I'll be giving out as Xmas presents, this year. The recipes are very well written and easy to follow. Summer here in Italy, is generous of fresh fruits and vegetables that it is so easy to gather all you need and prepare the chutneys and/or preserves as outlined in the book; the money you save when you prepare your own pickles and the excellent taste that they have is a reward to the time spent removing frost and filling in jars.
