A great reference book for the well targeted "Worried Well" November 11, 2008 Ian Wilson has written with clarity to facilitate access and understanding. The orderly presented information represents considerable research, highlighting the pros and cons, interspersed with personal comments, intelligent and often witty...... A 'must' for the concerned reader who can happily jettison of all those articles taken from serious newspapers and magazines, collected yet most difficult to evaluate. Enlightening!
Thoughtful reflection October 31, 2008 Thoughtful reflection
This book is a treasure trove of really useful and up to date medical information. Clearly written in layman's language that ensures it can be understood by non-medically trained readers. I'm confident that if more of us read this book we would dramatically decrease our dependence on the National Health. By ensuring that we took better care of ourselves, without recourse to intrusive medical treatments. Dr Wilson's excellent book should be at the very top of your Christmas book list for those friends and relations you really care about.
A very well informed read October 28, 2008 You could buy twenty books on individual health topics to get all the information that is packed into tbis very easy-to-read volume in 46 chapters. While medical breakthroughs, exercise and nutrition dominate, Ian Wilson covers everything else from jetlag and depression to sleep, sex and the meaning of life and death. His background in philosophy and counselling make for an unusual and fascinating approach. The medical stuff is bang up-to-date. If you thought the worried well were a bunch of rich hypochondriacs, think again. Everyone should be thinking of taking care of their health preventatively. This book shows how to do it in 1000 ways that should add ten years to your life. Worth ten times the price.
What a treasure trove October 21, 2008 I found this a fascinating read. It is the sort of book one can dip in and out of and always come up with more little gems. I have been travelling for the last couple of weeks and took the book with me, and it turned out to be ideal for reading on planes and whilst waiting in Airports. It really is an invaluable tome. As something of a 'silver surfer' myself, concerned about all the ailments that accompany getting older, I was pleased to see that I am not alone. All I need to do now is try and respond to all this good advice. An excellent present for anyone over forty.
Nigel Lang. GP Practice Manager October 20, 2008 I confess when I first came across this book I approached it with some scepticism. Interestingly Dr Wilson is an Oxford PhD and his writing is from the standpoint of an intelligent enquiring patient rather than a clinician. Once into the book it becomes more and more interesting even covering medical breakthroughs in the last two years. What makes this book particularly useful is that it provides first class advice on practical preventitive measures for all to remain sound in body and mind. If patients were to read and follow the advice in this book I think that not only could they live significantly longer but also by not needing to come to the surgery they would save the NHS and tax payer countless millions; on the downside, I could be out of a job!
