I have looked for a book of this sort for a long time and Podlin has succeeded in providing a very useful book for the day-to-day users of MS EXcel VBA. Coverage of topics is always going to be subjective, but on the whole this is a good selection. Introducing code to people not familiar with it is not easy, but this is well written and reasonably accessible. Coverage of message and input boxes is good and these are followed by a good range of tools and controls from the Forms and Controls toolbars. I find that one or two corners have been cut in the explanations here and some amendemnt would be desirable.
The inclusion of ADO tends to stretch the book out beyond what I would expect to be the capabilities or needs of the target reader of the earlier chapters. More time and pace could be given to spell out a few points earlier, especially in covering the nature of object oriented programming and the use of the object browser, the use of modules in storing macros and developing ideas for VBA usage.
That said, this book comes close to achieving the 'el dorado' of being a usable, readable and reasonably inexpensive buy for Excel uers new to programming concepts and practice.
