I aint no dummy but this book is worth the stigma. June 28, 2001 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
...The book is very clear to understand and full of advice and tips. You don't need to read it from cover to cover as the index is very good when your looking to "iron out" some glitches in macros etc. I have bought various books for VBA programming but some are obviously written by programmers with programmers minds who cannot communicate on laymans terms. John W is definately not one who fits into that category. If the other "Dummies" books are half as clear as this book then it might be worth buying more (I'm currently thinking of buying the Access 97 programmers one), I'll let you know how I get on with the others. So finally.... get this book, the tricks it teaches are enough to get you a promotion (still waiting for mine though ! - all resonable offers considered.)
Simply fantastic ! October 12, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was a bit apprehensive buying yet "another" VBA book, but I was most pleasantly suprised with this. The examples are very basic and very easy to understand. I have to admit that within hours of reading the first few chapters, I was already well under way programming in VBA.It really is that easy ! This book is a must have for those wanting to learn VBA in Excel 97.
OK Excel VBA primer September 10, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Very good on the basics of Excel VBA, but lacks useable examples of real world Excel code (cf. Access for Dummies which has loads of useable code but is less good on VBA basics). If you're an Excel user and never used VBA before then this book is a great place to start. If you're an experienced VBA developer with another app (I'm an Access developer) wanting to extend your skills then you may want to look elsewhere.
Perfect for those moving from Excel 4 XLM programming September 8, 1999 I had decided to make the move from Excel 4 XLM programming to VBA in Excel 97.As a moderate to skilled user of Excel 4, I wanted a book that would take me through VBA without explaining how to use a mouse and keyboard! This book is perfect, it is written in a light style, but is not short on content. Technical sections are flagged up in the margin for optional reading, and there are some (but not a huge number) of practical examples to work through. In short, if you are a competent user of Excel and are looking for a book to get you to a reasonable standard in Excel 97 VBA - this is it!!
A great book to help you get started with Excel programming. May 11, 1999 As an "intermediate" user of Excel, I needed a fairly easy to use book to help me get started with writing macros in Excel. This book fit my need very well. You will not by any means be an expert in Excel programming after you use this book, but you will definitely be able to write (not just record) macros with confidence as a result of this book. I recommend it highly as a first book for "beginner" to "intermediate" users of Excel who want to quickly begin writing their own macros.
