OK but not enough sample questions January 17, 2008 I should point out I have not finished this book yet or sat the exam but have sat and passed 70-431 and 70-441 using the Sybex books.
The problem with this book compared to the Sybex ones is that there far fewer sample questions in this book. You get 20 sample questions per chapter in the Sybex books, and they are similar in format to the exam.
In the MS Press book you get 4 or 5 per chapters which are in a "non-exam" style, but you do get an evaluation copy of SQL Server 2005. Personally I think the Sybex books are better and more neutral in viewpoint, and you can get an evaluation of SQL Server 2005 elsewhere e.g MS web site.
The viewpoint of the MS books is always "use the new features to do everything" e.g use as much managed .NET code as you can instead of Transact-SQL. Frankly I'm not interested in the party line from Redmond, Washington I am just trying to pass an exam and want as much knowledge and practice questions for my money as possible. Other than that the book is good and does cover a lot of ground to be fair with plenty of practical exercises (which are important for passing the exam)
