5 out of 5 stars worth to purchase   April 20, 2008
I found this book very useful. It is easy and have well written for beginners and also include standard rules for advanced developers. However there are few things which i didn't like about this book. 1. Book is in A4 format 2. Book cover isn't good for rough use. 3. Not many self learning exercises.
Also it is the only book of such kind avaialble in market.

5 out of 5 stars A great way to learn Access VBA   December 17, 2007

This book has really helped me get my database completed. I was stuck with macros that weren't working / not doing what I wanted them to do, and after consulting the online news groups it was recommended by several that I learn Access VBA. I had no previous experience of Access VBA at all (but had fairly good knowledge of Access).

The way the book is set out made it really easy to pick up VBA and the exercises at the end of each chapter are very helpful. Also the general Access tips are very helpful too.

I went through the whole book in under 4 days, so if you want to learn Access VBA easily and quickly I wholeheartedly recommend this book. Hats off to Mike Smart.

This is exactly how a self-study book should be written. I feel a novice would gain a lot from this, but it would help to have a little fundamental knowledge of Access and VBA before using this book. Only a little though.

The step-by-step nature and the tests at the end of each chapter are what make this book so superb as it forces the reader to learn and retain what they are being taught.

5 out of 5 stars Let Smart give you a great Start   September 10, 2007
This book will provide you with the know-how and more importantly the confidence to built Professionally designed databases very quickly. Once you have experienced the joy of this well constructed 'hands on' approach teaching method (ideal for such a tool as Access) you will be writing to Mike Smart to ask him to produce books for other software design tools.

On finishing the book (and the exercises) you are ready to proceed imediately to designing your own databases with the book in the background as reference if and when you need it.

I wholeheartedly reccommend this book to anyone wishing to learn Access and VBA.

5 out of 5 stars Learn Access VBA in a direct, easy-to-follow manner   August 31, 2007
A great practical hands-on book that should teach any beginning to intermediate Access user/developer how to design and build easy-to-use, effective database applications in a sensible manner. I really found it easy to read. And it's not just about Access VBA - although it certainly teaches you that - but about how best to leverage what MSAccess has to offer.

The learning comes in short manageable chunks - with zero distractions. You will learn the concepts as you write the code. The short lessons are grouped logically, and the entire book constitutes an excellent survey of Microsoft Access application development - with the fat trimmed off.

Two points in closing: I hope the author gets around to writing another Access book on planning, designing and deployment. And throw in a fat chapter on getting legacy data into Access - now that I would sink my teeth into.
