On Line course October 23, 2008 This is a pack which enables you to signup and use an on-line course on using Word 07 for twelve months. This is the ideal way to learn how to use Word 07 if you are new to Word or have not used it for soemtime. There are a large number of changes to Word in the 07 edition and this course shows you how to get the best from it. The downside is that if you work best from on-line documentation you will probably have just tried things to see if they work. Using the course you do discover areas of the program that you might otherwise miss. If you prefer to read about how to use software then this is not for you. You will need to look at the large selection of guides which are available.
Training for Word 2007 October 12, 2008 Basically you are paying for the registration details for the online course. You do get a CD when you buy this but it only contains the links you need to the website. You will need the Office Media yourself as this is not provided and is pretty essential. Overall a good learning program that you can do online at your own pace, you get 12 months to complete the course which is plenty
Well paced and easy to use.... October 3, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Although im not a regular user of the Microsoft office package, i do have it and haved used it from time to time. I decided to give this a try to see if im missing any good features or nice tricks to the MS Word app.
This software is great for the first time user of Word, if like me you have used older versions or are using the new Vista version and are pretty confident with it, you wont find much new here.
But like i said, for the first time user its great, it shows all you need to know and more to be confident and productive with Microsofts fantastic Word package.
For those who wish to brush up on their user skills, or those who are planning on taking the official course its worth a shot as it will refresh your memory well with training exercises and more.
All in all definately worth the money for new users and those wanting to take the MS test.
quite useful September 27, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Office 07 in my opinion is the best office suite out there. I use Word almost daily, though I do not go deep into menus and details. This training program is quite useful. Installation is quite easy, you register online, get an account and that is it. You need to download some material from the website, but I did not think that is a big issue. The material itself is quite good, ranging from things are pretty obvious, like navigating around and things, to more important things for me, like working on tables, add-ins, etc. I found it a bit messy at the beginning, to get to find my way around it, as it is not really the easiest of layouts, but then I got used to it. For me though, a book about Word would be more preferable, as you would read and implement directly. Using this kind of software/videos is not really that helpful. After all, at some points I felt that almost everything can be found in the Office help files, or simply the internet. Nevertheless, it is good to find something all in one place, not to mention that visual training is better. This is not a bad program, quite useful, and if you need to use Word a lot, or make a move from previous editions of Office to the latest one, I would recommend getting this program, it would be of a major help, as Word 07 is different that any other version. Only negative about it, as mentioned earlier, is the complexity of working with it, and I did think that there is still a lot more to cover.
Is this written for the Word users or an IT expert!!! September 24, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was very keen to try this bit of software. I have used Microsoft Office for about 12 years and was eager to try Word 2007. I downloaded the Word 2007 trial from Microsoft and then set about following the course on the CD-ROM. It should be noted that Word 2007 at first glance appears somewhat different to the earlier versions and as such this programme is of little benefit to those people buying to to learn the earlier Word programmes.
Great start. The disk was recognised immediately and set up was a very straight forward affair. No problems there. Then the problems started. The instructions as to how to use the disk and follow the course were very difficult and they seemed to be directed to I.T specialists and not the everyday Word Users. Surely if the programme and software is directed to the Word end users then the programme should reflect that. Now, don't get me wrong, I am pretty good at mastering computers having worked with them since the 80's and I have used most operating systems and I currently use and link Mac and PCs. I am therefore quite skilled in computer jargon. However, that didn't help me. The instructions are very difficult to follow and my colleague and I took no less the 90 minutes to work out how to load up and start the lessons. Strangely, every time I looked at a page the computer was calculating that I had completed a percentage of the course without me doing any test. I confess I am not sure if thats an error on the programme or the correct way it runs but who is to say that anyone could purely flick through the course and manage to get an 100% completion return.
After eventually working out what I had to do in the course I realised that the disk actually made Word 2007 more difficult to understand than it was. A lot of the information I learnt on the course was basic information that you would know if you used Microsoft Word regularly. In fact I didn't learn anything I didn't already know.
It would have been easier to follow instructions by reading a document, with some pictures to show examples of the instructions, rather than using a disk. Maybe Microsoft should take a leaf out of Apples book and prepare free online video tuition as per Aperture. These are small 2-3 minute videos which take the mystery out of the software and is backed up by books. This software disk system just does work and I think Microsoft have missed a trick and forgotten as to who uses Word ie most everyone and not just brain surgeons and rocket scientists.
On the plus side the disk does have several resources to try to assist including pictures, movie clips, tabs and audio to listen to etc, but the course seems rather unstructured in that there are too many resources and it can be somewhat distracting to find which is the best resource to use to learn what is a very simple programme in Word to follow.
There were a lot of documents that needed to be downloaded and used on each activity and this made it difficult to understand what document I had to use and when I had to use it. It seemed also to make the computer very slow. Furthermore, the documents were very long-winded, and I found that I had to read them twice to understand the command. The producers could have made the directions and instructions much more simpler for people to understand more clearly what they needed to do.
All in all a poor attempt to provide easy to follow tuition for Word 2007. You are far better off downloading the trial version of Word 2007 for a month utilizing the knowledge you already have and using the help tabs to learn new techniques.
