Training for Outlook October 12, 2008 Basically you are paying for the registration details for the online course. You do get a CD when you buy this but it only contains the links you need to the website. You will need the Office Media yourself as this is not provided and is pretty essential. Overall a good learning program that you can do online at your own pace, you get 12 months to complete the course which is plenty
Good for the riught audience October 11, 2008 Hmm...I'm not sure how to rate this. I wanted to like it, hoped to learn a lot, but it wasn't what I expected. I guess it's aimed more at system administrators and anyone requiring professional qualifications.
It is the sort of course that needs to be followed pretty much from end to end, rather than dipped into or used as help or reference material. If that's what you need, maybe for employees as an alternative to expensive classroom courses, or anyone new to Outlook, this CD could be ideal. But, if you're an everyday user of Outlook and just want to be sure you're getting the best out of it, you could probably do better elsewhere, using alternative training CDs or books or even magazine articles.
I'm in the "everyday user" category. I certainly did get a lot out of the course, but much of it would be known by any frequent user of Outlook; I feel I could have picked up stuff that was new and relevant to me more quickly by reading a good book, skipping over everything I already knew or wasn't interested in.
On the positive side, the course is well-designed and easy to navigate. You are told what's coming up and can run self-tests to make sure you were awake. Voice sound quality is poor at times but I always found it intelligible.
So...if you're new to Outlook or want professional training, this is easily worth four stars, but for casual users only two or three. I'll assume you're in the former category and award it four.
Informative but very disappointing presentation October 5, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This product is designed to train you in Office Outlook 2007 and is used for the MCAS exam (Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator).
You must have a constant internet connection and email to use this training guide as it's all completed online. Remember to unblock popups from this site to do the training.
Similar to the Vista core training, the voice for exlpanation is unusually very distorted almost like a Dalek (from Dr Who) and is at times unclear.
Although the products requirements are that you use Windows XP, vista or 2000, some of the initial training downloads require you to have Vista installed on your PC. This is misleading as I have XP and can't do a small part of this course.
Similar to the other training courses, they consist of several information and training modules (a mixture of text based reading and movie material) that you can navigate around using a simple to use navigation bar. Objectives are clearly stated to inform you what you should have learnt by the end of each modules. Movie material can be paused, rewound, and skipped as you would expect. At the end of modules, you can perform self tests that query your knowledge.
Make sure you don't have many other applications open when starting this course as new windows pop up every 2 minutes filling your taskbar with un-necessary junk.
The course is aimed at those of you wanting to know absolutely all the ins and outs of the Office Outlook 2007 and includes; Getting started with Outlook 2007 Sharing and remotely accessing data in outlook Working with tasks and notes Managing the calender Managing Mail and contact information Working with Email messages All in all it is for those of you who need to take the course for MCAS and although it is informative, it is very poorly presented.
