5 out of 5 stars The best ergonomic keyboard I have used   November 16, 2008
I am a web designer and computer consultant and use a computer 7 days a week and often 10 hours a day. Not surprisingly, I suffer from RSI ;)

I have tried many weird and wonderful keyboards in an attempt to relieve the pain of typing. Manufacturers seem to have taken four different approaches:

    1. The gentle: eg Logitech Wave Keyboard
    2. The different: eg Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000, black, USB
    3. The extreme: eg Goldtouch - Keyboard - PS/2, USB - ergonomic - black - UK QWERTY
    4. The bizarre and expensive: eg the Maltron keyboard @ 375 +++

I have tried each of the first three types, but could not afford to experiment with the last one (even though Maltron do offer a weekly hire service).

I found the Logitech Wave to be an impressive looking keyboard but, I did not notice any particular improvement in the level of pain I experienced from using it. I also found that, even after 6 month's usage, my typing was was far from accurate or natural.

Goldtouch have approached this problem by providing a keyboard that has been physically split in half and joined via an articulated joint that can be locked in position. This allows an infinite level of customisation. However, each half is keyboard is flat rather than curved and, whilst I found a certain level of pain relief in my wrists, my fingers continued to hurt as "normal". The keyboard is also quite expensive.

The Microsoft keyboard has been described by previous reviewers in far more detail and far more eloquently than I could! However, I found it to be the most comfortable and effective keyboard by far. I is a high quality product that lasted me two or more years before a couple of the keys died. Based on my daily usage, this is pretty durable! as a previous reviewer said, getting used to the layout took a little time, but I found it actually improved my typing skills. I can't recommend this keyboard highly enough and, after a brief diversion using the Goldtouch and (currently) the Logitech, I am looking forward to buying my second Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000.

One thing I found that is worth bearing in mind is that once you get used to the different layout, typing on a normal keyboard becomes quite a clumsy affair. I often go to client's offices and I get strange looks when I fail to type even the most simple text using their flat keyboards!

1 out of 5 stars Clacking Space Bar   September 11, 2008
I have used this keyboard for about six months. Its comfortable, but so incredibly noisy. I am a touch typist, and find the clacking spacebar most irritating. Also, the letters have worn off the keys, particularly the E, I O and M. This should not happen with a keyboard nowadays. I will not buy this one again. Its not designed or built for fast touch typists. Disappointing. Evelyn Adams

2 out of 5 stars some keys stopped working   July 29, 2008
Having had this keyboard (and loved it!) for just over 12 months, I'm very disappointed with it. One morning, 5 of the keys (spread around the keyboard) stopped working. And that was that. It's not due to ill treatment or coffee spillage...they just stopped working. And they are random keys. So there appears to be no logic to it. All of them went at the same time, and no more have gone since them (about 3 months now). Very frustrating. So I would have given it more stars, but......
    Thanks Microsoft.....!

2 out of 5 stars Broken keys and didn't work   May 1, 2008
0 out of 1 found this review helpful

Bought this as a replacement for my ageing natural keyboard - got it home, was impressed with it... until I tried to type on it. Half the keys only worked if I really hit them repeatedly - while this caused friends on MSN amusement... it did prove a slight inconvenience when trying to work on the thing. After 2 days of struggling on with it I was experiencing worse wrist pain than I ever had before using "flat" keyboards and went back to my old, reliable natural keyboard.

5 out of 5 stars Used it for a year: the best keyboard I've ever had.   April 26, 2008
This is one of the very few products that's actually better than you think it's going to be. I use a computer nearly all day every day, for programming and normal writing. I suffer RSI in my forearms, but not with this keyboard. The way that they keys slope away from you seems strange for the first few minutes, but actually it's a brilliant idea.
I really can't recommend this product enough, and usually I am disappointed with everything I buy!
