expensive running costs May 31, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a not too bad cheap alternative for the occasional user but if it is intended for business use you will find yourself continually shelling out for batteries. I easily use a set of batteries per week so it's not entirely the green alternative. The manual says not to use rechargeable batteries - not exactly sure why unless Olympus holds shares in Duracell.
Easy to use May 6, 2008 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
The big advantage of this device is the ease of use. It is a reasonable size, so there are not problems such as pressing erase instead of play!
However I have given it 3 stars because of its poor sound quality. I work in Outpatients and secretaries find the recording of very poor quality in comparison to the Olympus Voice Recorder we had (unfortunately the recordings on the Voice Recorder are not editable).
I also have a Sony ICD MX20, which I found in comparison has a MUCH better sound quality, as well a edit function on recordings. However the device is very small, and if not careful can be easy to erase files unintentionally.
Does what it says on the tin March 8, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I made the transition from Tape to Digital using this machine and haven't looked back. It has been very reliable and clear even in the presence of background noise.
I like the little touches like messages and greetings when the machine is switched on and off.
The software for the Mac has been faultless.
In short a 5 Star performer.

I will be conducting some interviews in January. I bought this machine as it was a good price, got good reviews on amazon.com and it is mac compatible.
The sound quality seems fine for my needs (quiet room, two or more people talking). I don't see that I will have to buy an external microphone as the built in one seems good enough.
It is mac compatible and the software works perfectly fine on it.
If you want something affordable and want something that is mac compatible and has the option of buying a transcription kit (headphones and pedal) then this one is great.
It is easy to use, has good clear buttons, good instructions, the battery life seems good and I would recommend it.
