SimpleStart, Simple Software - True To Its Word October 12, 2008 QuickBooks' SimpleStart is a simple, easy-to-use piece of software for anyone starting their own business, and wanting to do quick accounting, without messing around in spreadsheet programs, trying to calculate countless sums and totals in order to get the resulting figures they need.
The program is not advanced, and not meant for full professional users, with larger businesses, where you'd need things like VAT, etc. QuickBooks do offer an alternative professional version, but for anyone offering a service, such as setting up a website design company, or a masseuse offering their services to members of the public, this software is perfect.
Before committing to a purchase, it may be worth investigating through some Google searches exactly what your business will require in terms of accounting software, but for most home users, SimpleStart would be a great choice.
Essential? I would think so. October 6, 2008 I have in the past had a somewhat tortured relationship with Quickbooks. I really could not get a handle on the package!
This lite version is therefore an essential repackaging of the Quickbooks product line. It doesn't need night school and an economics degree to get to work, and is certainly going to be the ideal starter point for those people with new businesses.
Keep It Simple, Stupid. The KISS rule is so often just what a new business needs and Quickbooks SimpleStart adheres to that. Simple to install, simple to start keeping acounts and a great lead-in product to later more complicated accounting packages as a business grows.
simple and easy to use October 5, 2008 This a a simple easy to use little item! I am not starting a business but if i were starting out, and cost were really important, and keep records then i would go for this. The last thing you want is to lay out for expensive items if they are no use.
Affordable and apt October 5, 2008 SimpleStart is essentially a cut down version of Pro 2008. It has a similar interface but is slimmed down to 'just the basics'.
There are issues with VAT as with it's elder brother product, so be wary of that. However the Quicken series has long been respected in it's field and will likely continue to be. So, with guidance this current program might serve you well.
For this price and the support offered you really won't find a better accounting package. Freeware ones really are very basic and are no different to personal spreadsheet accounting.
cheap and cheerful October 2, 2008 Like most well behaved software, Quickbooks checks for critical updates actually before starting to install. However, on being uninstalled (a standard procedure for me when trying out any new software) if leaves pieces of itself scattered all over the registry. I also don't like the fact that registering the product needs both your name and your postcode rather than the usual email address. Any time the software is installed on a new computer the registration details have to be changed... Too much information in unknown hands.
Right, that's the gripes over. What we've got here is accounts for dummies (like me). Although I'm only using it to track my own household income/expenditure, it's easy enough to see how my superficial use of it could be built up into running a small business. And at its current price (over 50% off the retail price of 50) what's to lose?
