I learned to touch type on Mavis Beacon. Sadly the CD-ROM from Windows 95 is not compatible with Windows XP, so when I upgraded my computer I had to buy it again. Guess what-I've now got a laptop with windows Vista-and it's not compatible either!I will not buy it again! The program really works-I was up to 30wpm in a couple of weeks, and it's easy to do a quick refresher at the PC when you have a few minutes. Watch out though-if you are planning to change systems/computers, the CD will become useless!

This is the program that turned me into a fast typist. I have tried a few typing software and this one beats them all. I like the games and the exercises. My speed has gone up from 15 WPM to 50 WPM. I now enjoy working on the computer more as I work much quicker. For those of you that work with numbers this package does teach the whole Keyboard. The Number keys at the top of the QWERTY keyboard as well as providing exercises for the mastery of the numeric pad. Mavis voice is a little patronising but this feature can be turned off. Also the lessons progress at a quick rate, again you can repeat a lesson unto you are satisfied with your progress. I highly recommend this product to all those that want to become speedy typists

Have been using this for a couple of months now and have seen great improvement. V16 is now availble as well but I have to say this version is fantastic!

This is a tried and trusted program that gets you typing well right from the start. As a self-taught typist I had a very idiosyncratic style that had just about hit its limit in terms of WPM. Going back and learning to touch type properly made all the differnce and has saved aching arms and over-worked shoulders.Just to correct an earlier review you DON'T need to run this off the CD, it's got an install option and you can then bin the CD if you feel so inclined. It always pays to read instructions doesn't it?

I could already type before I got this, so I can't really comment on how good it is for people learning right from the beginning. I got Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing 15 to help me brush up my skills and to improve my overall speed, and it has certainly done that. The program installed easily. Once installed it is really easy to fire it up and get going on your practice. I must say that using Mavis Beacon 15 is a whole lot more fun than the way I learned to type some (cough) years ago on an old manual typewriter! The voiceovers are pleasant, and the games are pretty good too. The thing I have found most useful though is that you can have Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing 15 running whilst you are doing other typing tasks, such as writing emails or word processing. Your speed and accuracy are recorded as you go along so you get a much better idea of your typing skills in real world situations.
