AVOID ! March 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I recently installed this on my laptop. According to the box I had 12 months of updates but the message came up that the updates had expired !. After numerous E mails to the UK address I was informed that they no longer deal with Zone alarm. Is my computer protected I honestly do not know. Shame on Amazon for continuing to sell this out of date software !.
Zone alarm Internet security suite January 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It worked fine out of the box until it installed the latest update. It then took 18 hours to crash to a stop only having checked about a quarter of my files for viruses. This was on a freshly installed clean XP system with no clutter or other lurking issues. The product is unusable. This is a great pity because I have used Zone Alarm for about 5 years and it was an excellent product. However the operative word is WAS - crying shame! If I could have awarded it no stars I would have done.
upgrading from version 6 October 9, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Since attempting to upgrade version 6 i am unable to access zone alarm at all. When trying to uninstall it a message comes up about true vector being in use elseware even though nothing else is on. The whole thing is is a waste of my time. I have even tried to reinstal the software from the cd but it does not allow me to do this. Has anyone else had this problem and if so can they help.
ZoneAlarm's clear interface wins over Norton + McAfee February 5, 2007 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
I really like ZoneAlarm's clear interface, the help, the hint to search for suspect process names. I had no problems with installation and updates (running now on our 3 home PCs). In the past I have used Norton and McAfee. Their interface seemed muddy and with both products I worried that I somehow made a change and left the back door unlocked. After careful research, I decided to go with ZoneAlarm 6.5 end of December 2006 (for a 15-day trial). If you decide to switch, regardless of which new security suite, make sure you download all uninstall scripts before you disable your internet connection and uninstall the old software (for McAfee you need an uninstall script that you have to download from their web site). My use is only for general internet browsing nothing fancy. A full system scan does slow the machine down, so I schedule it when I don't need to access the computer. BTW-Norton's system scan was worse.
Rubbish November 27, 2006 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
I decided to buy ZA after my Norton AVS subscription ran out. Once I over came some installation issues (ie you don't clean install this product if you run the downloaded version). I was given the chance to upgrade to the latest version 6.5, once updated I find that Messenger did not work properly, so rolled back to 6.1, after which I noticed the number of programs with Internet access was nearing 200, some of these programs did not even access the internet, or were WIndows Update downloaders. I kept clearing them, they kept coming back! I found like other reviewer's, spyware & virus updates were hap-hazard in updates being released. The time for a full system scan of 2.4hrs for 20gbs was to long to be practical. Whilst now being able to use messenger, ZA still protested making it slow to open up, sometimes throwing up firewall errors, which needed fixing. ZA Junk mail is a joke, despite setting it for the highest level a third of all adverts came thru, as did 50% of those get rich quick; buy xyz inc for 25cents guaranteed to make a $ by the end of the week. ZA has forums for customers to discuss issues - I have never seen so many problems raised, if you don't believe me take a look, google zone alarm forums... After 60 days of use ZA has been deleted fom my machine, a mamoth task, involving CCleaner; Abexo registry fixer, chkdsk and defrag of the hard drive.
