Be Warned - McAfee ISS is better September 28, 2007

I purchased this from Amazon, having previously purchased the McAfee Internet Security Suite (which I would rate as 5 stars based on my own experience), mainly because of the number of adverse reviews for McAfee ISS 2007. Wish I hadn't heeded these reviews and remained loyal to the McAfee ISS, as this software is not as good, slows my machine down much more and interferes with the functioning of other key software loading on start-up, requiring me to manage the start-up procedure manually rather than relying on the auto start-up. I also needed to contact the HP helpline as it identified files as PUPs which were part of my computer's basic software [thankfully HP were very helpful in resolving this problem]. I will not be updating this next time around, but will go back to the trusted McAfee ISS. I had Norton installed when I bought my PC and quickly removed it, as it was appallingly slow - I switched to McAfee which I believe is much better and have most confidence in. I also believe my start-up problems are not solely due to McAfee VirusScan Plus, but also to interference with the AOL Spyware Protection which my current IP insists I need. Hence, I have decided to stick with McAfee but change my IP in the next few months - too many software suppliers want to cash in and cover every aspect of internet security. I have found the best spyware protection to be Webroot SpySweeper which I have had for the last 3-4 years with no problems. McAfee ISS and Webroot SpySweeper are all you need and they work well together.

I have just bought McAfee VirusScan Plus 2007 and think it is complete rubbish. I have had Mcafee on my computer for the past year and when my subscription ran out they offered me renewal at a special rate which turned out to be more expensive than buying the product as new! So I bought the product as new - first of all had installation problems which their helpline eventually admitted was their fault (at 1 per minute). Once I got it installed some of the programme was missing - again 1 per minute helpline admitted it was their fault. Then the programme caused error problems on my Outlook Express - again a common problem according to entries on Google. Trying to get a refund is impossible as they have no contact phone numbers, no address, no customer support in case of problems like this. DON'T BUY IT! Plus I would like to see the law changed so that any company offering products for sale online should be compelled to show a contact address plus a contact phone number - and that would be a manned contact address and a manned phone number.

Good solid firewall etc protection that keeps the spammers / pop-ups / trojans at bay, if not a little too well!
There can be problems associated with using E-Bay and various other such internet sites with high security requirements because of McAfee's failure to coordinate their programming/automatic updating functionality with these utilities.
(If you are a NatWest Bank customer (or RBS I assume), I strongly advise you to speak to your bank about ~provision~ of this package. Do so and you will heavily praise this mention of mine.)

this is an excellent software. having been using Bitdefender for a while and it was time for upgrading, I got this new McAfee, and was not disappointed.
positive points:
-installation is very easy, set it up and let it do its work
- very comprehensive protection, from viruses to trojans, to keyloggers, all what you need
- very easy to configure, which is really good, it does not require an IT expert to know what to do with it
- frequent updates makes it ready for any attacks
- efficient scan
- does not slow down your pc performance, and does not eat up your memory as well compared to Norton for instance.
some negative points would be having to install the security centre, the full system scan could take long time, but it depends on how large your hard drive capacity is. you cannot expect any software to scan a 100 giga hardrive in five minutes for instance.
the interface is quite nice as well, pleasant colors.
in a word, a trust worthy antivirus, McAfee is a solid name and it certainly lives up for it. it gives peace of mind and is easy to use and not so pricey compared to other antivirus software.
