5 out of 5 stars This is the one to buy!!!   September 8, 2007

Having spent many hours editing and the trying to render various pieces of video footage on to a Pinnacle software system (with no success what so ever) I decided to go on previous recommendations and buy the Sony Vageas Movie Studio +DVD 6 (Platinum Edition). After taking delivery, editing with it and rendereing a superb quality DVD at the first attempt, my thoughts were "why didn't I but this one from the very start, instead of wasting my time with other feeble excuses of editing software?". This software didn't "hang up" the P.C. once during either the editing stage or the rendering stage. Previous software I've used was "hanging up" everytime I tried to do anything with it. If you are looking to buy some video editing software, without spending the amount the professionals do, then get this one. It is the only one I've found that actually works!!!
Superb features and once you get the hang of how to do things through the use of the excellent tutorials, it's a breeze to use and the results are great. Not that I have ever used "professional" software, but I would imagine it performs just as well on this version and at a fantastic price too!!
What can I say except "Thanks Sony, you've made me believe that their are some companies that can at least get software to work. Forget Pinnacle and Roxio, this is the one to get!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Value for money   July 26, 2007

This product cannot be beaten on value for money. It is overloaded with features and if you want great looking productions your search is probably over. Not all features are are straight forward but with a little time and a clear understanding of what you want to achieve, then most things you want will be manageable. If you get more serious a switch to Sony's full blown package Vegas will be a breeze.

After trying nearly every editing package on the planet from moviemaker to premiere pro2 I took the plunge and downloaded the demo version.

I consider myself Farley experienced editor as I work mainly with Adobe Premiere Pro2 but I was not expecting what I found with Sony Vegas 6, Effortless & easy editing with added motion settings that come as an expensive extra with Adobe, as a wedding videographer and editor it's important to have all the functions that is available in Vegas as standard.

The nearest competitor would have to be Premiere Elements 3, having tried elements 1, 2 & 3 I found elements to be good but clunky, in hindsight I should have started with Vegas.

If you are considering a decent editing system try the free download from Sony and see how you go, I think you may just like it but you have to persevere with it the popup help is a little gem, I have not got round to trying out the DVD authoring programme yet but if it's half as good as the main programme then BRING IT ON....!

5 out of 5 stars What I should have purchased first time round   March 9, 2007

After four months of wrestling with a horrendously unstable Cyberlink suite of products and learning I was far from alone, I purchased Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum + DVD6 and quickly learned that this is what I should have purchased first time round.

Even without the current offer saving 30 on normal price, it's a steal, and regardless of who actually wrote it, with Sony's badge on the box and reputation to stand up for it is every bit as stable and reliable as I hoped.

With up to six timelines (Text, Video, Video overlay, Voice, Music, and Sound effects) and lots of functionality, it looks daunting at first, but wait until the kids are asleep and spend half an hour with the instructions; these include excellent pop-up guidance windows that help you as you really work, not just separate text windows that you have to understand before you then transfer this knowledge to the tool. Swiftly you learn how logical the toolset is, and the rest then falls in to place.

This is the first video editing and DVD authoring toolset with which I have had no audio/video synch problems too, but if you want to timeslip video relative to audio it's easy to do. Proper jog shuttle is provided, and fades are slick.

    Highly recommended.

I see some late nights ahead. :-)

4 out of 5 stars Better than Adobe Premier Elements 3   February 22, 2007

I tried (and reviewed) the free trial download of the Adobe suite and was very impressed with its on-line tutorials. However, it is more expensive and the reviews for this Sony Vegas swung it for me - that and I've got a Sony handycam, so no compatability probs. So, what does it do? Well, I haven't a clue! I've got no further than the equally good tutorials, the 'how to' (even more helpful)button and a quick explore of the other software that comes with it. However, as a complete novice, my first impressions are very optimistic: the interface is very user-friendly, and the section for cobbling together the video and audio is logical and self-explanatory. The various work-areas (video preview, transition effects previews, audio editing, and colour editing all follow the same logical pattern. In all, it seems to have the hand-holding necessary for novices, through to - well whatever those twiddly things that experts do are called. I'm happy with this. It will take me time to work through to completion of my first half-way decent DVD, but the programme itself has given me the confidence to try. I gave up with the Adobe - not because it didn't do what it says on the tin, but because of its comparative price, the excellent reviews for this Sony suite, and Amazon's great price. And it works with Vista
