Does what is says August 30, 2008 Having read the other reviews here and elsewhere I gave it a whirl. My purchase was due to having installed windows a fresh due to some dual boot issues and I simply could not be bothered doing it all again. One 400GB hard drive to be divided, already running windows XP - Arconis installed quickly no problems, scanned the drives within 10 seconds, gave me automated options and upon chopping the disk into a 100gb system drive and a 300gb data drive I hit commit and it was done, reeboot required to complete the task and windows ran beautifully. Only critisism starts here. Once the major task was completed I could not get Arconis to go again without waiting 30 minutes for it to analyse the drives, but what the heck I'm happy and don't really need it further.
Good but Acronis support poor June 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
First got the software and had terrible problems getting it to install. I contacted Acronis support but received no reply other than an automated response. Acronis have a premium pay per answer support service so I guess you'll get little backup without paying.
I finally found the answer on my own. Acronis DDS is incompatible with HP Backup software. This has to be removed before installing Acronis.
When it was finally installed the software was relatively easy to use and fast in operation.
Easy for inexperienced users April 11, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I like many others needed to increase the size of my C drive as I was running low on free space. Was a bit nervous about doing the deed, but Acronis Disk Director Suite 10 made the task very simple.
Using the wizard I made my selections and all ran well. I didn't encounter any problems - the software did report that I had bad sectors on my second disk, but this was merely for information purposes. When the wizard had ended, it took me a while to realise that I need to Commit (via the icon or menu) before my required changes took place. The online help pointed me in the right direction. After the changes had been committed, you are not prompted to remove the disk after you exit the program, but I guess it was obvious really.
I have only tested the resizing of my partitions so cannot rate the performance on the Recovery Expert, OS Selector or Disk Editor. There are no instructions or user guide in the box, but they are available on the included disk. Before I purchased I read the user guide which can be found on the Acronis website to make sure the process seemed straight forward for an inexperienced user to such tasks.
I did make sure I prepared my PC before running the process by removing any unwanted files and programs, running a defrag and creating a BACKUP of my files (just in case). All my files were intact, no data lost.
About my PC: Sony Vaio Desktop running Windows XP SP2 Drive C - originally 30GB (27GB used) increased to 60GB Drive D - originally 120GB (15GB used) reduced to 90GB
DO NOT INSTALL THIS SOFTWARE December 12, 2007 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I wanted to partition my hard drive, so bought and installed Disk Director Suite. It partitioned the drive OK but corrupted the MBR, rendering my (one drive) machine unuseable. I had to buy another hard drive, place that and the original drive in a second machine, and then laboriously recover the data using another (excellent) program called File Scavenger. Then I put the two drives back in the PC and reinstalled the OS.
If I hadn't found File Scavenger, I'd have been stuffed.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
One other thing: back-up, back-up, BACK-UP!!! With DVD and flash drives, there's no excuse these days!
Beware of this product with Vista December 5, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased this product so I could partition the disk on a new laptop and install Windows XP as second operating system. Unfortunately, while Acronis claims their software is fully compatible with Vista, it is not. Their multi-boot product 'Acronis OS Selector' is unable to recognise Vista as an operating system, leaving the machine unbootable. Fortunately I was able to remove the Multi-boot software with a disk recovery software. The other feature buyers need to be aware of is the poor quality of the Acronis support literature. For complex partitioning operations, unlike products such as Partition Magic the instructions are limited and provide little explanation of what you are doing to the disk. Finally, I found the Acronis web site frustrating to use. Even when I had succeeded in creating account, using a second email address, it still said I was not registered even when I was in a page titled 'My Account'. The problem being you cannot download upgrades until you have been registered.
