Don't underestimate the importance of backup! December 4, 2008 Like some here I did have the keycode issue, though despite this I have given the program 5 stars for these reasons:
1) It works - when push comes to shove you can reliably restore your data or whole system 2) It's simple - the interface is easy and being able to schedule and automate backup is really important 3) It does more than backup - having used earlier versions the additional safe zone, clean up and secure destruction are welcome features
Above previous versions I also like that you can schedule (not new) but it will just complete the backup when the backup disk is attached, meaning you don't have to have your device powered all the time. It even does a 'role up' of the incremental backups to simplify recovery.
If you have personal info and things things like pictures on your PC, you HAVE to get this software!
Good but niggles let it down December 4, 2008 As per the previous reviewer, the fact that they issued time-expired licence keys was annoying, but their support pages did have the link to get a valid one issued. The True Image copied my software over from my old hard drive to the new one easily, but when I made the new disk the boot disk I found that my card reader wouldn't work. Another trip to the support page and it was reported as a new bug. I had to download the latest version of true Image off their site. Makes you ask the question "why did I buy the CD?" should have just downloaded the copy from the web site in the first place and I wouldn't have had all the grief.
Acronis True Image Home 2009 December 4, 2008 Acronis True Image Home 2009 Difficult, this one! The product itself, when you get it installed is excellent. However, that's no thanks to what came in the box, as the serial number supplied didn't work! Thus I had to get on to Acronis support, who allowed me to download a completely new version with another serial number that they gave me. So what I have paid for is effectively a licence to install Acronis on my PC (the package delivered being useless)!! Software itself IS excellent, though. Obviously not Amazon's fault, as the package delivered was new and sealed.
Verdict: I'm OK now - thank goodness I'm on uncapped broadband!

Excellent option for backing up your PC December 4, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've been using Acronis to back up my PC for several years now, and it's a thoroughly useful piece of software. It's basically a more useful version of the venerable Norton Ghost - it can store an exact image of your hard drive to enable you to recover perfectly from system crashes. However, it is far more flexible than Ghost - it runs under Windows without needing to reboot into a DOS environment (unlike Ghost). It allows flexible backups and restores, so individual files can easily be recovered from images. It can back up to network locations or USB drives. It allows fast iterative backups, where only the differences between current state and the last backup are stored. In general, as a PC backup solution, it is by far the best I've found, and I've successfully used it to migrate complete systems to new hard drives with no problems at all.
The new version 2009 adds the ability to "sandbox" the PC to try new software with a perfect rollback to the original state. It also allows backups to be scheduled and run unattended. The only flaws I have found with it are that the serial number supplied in the box didn't actually work (quickly rectified by visiting the Acronis website), and that it installs three processes on your machine that are started at start-up and run all the time, without which the main application runs but no backups will ever work - I instinctively try to keep the number of background processes running on my PC as small as possible to reduce start-up time.
Other than that, I'd recommend it True Image unreservedly - it's the best product of its kind that I've found.
Got my back up! December 3, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am sure it's a very good product judging by the reviews but it won't install and I haven't got the time to persuade it. I wonder how much time is spent trying to software to operate - must be worth a tidy sum. Whatever, backing up your stuff is essential. Hard drives today are huge and can 1TB and rising.
