Better Plug-ins, more stable - But know what you're doing. October 1, 2007 Studio 9 is at last a stable version of a cracking Video editor, I hope they only build from here.
I have noted some of the comments, particularly on rendering and have found similar, but these are cureable. Frame stuttering is usually caused by a mismatch between the speed Studio thinks it can run at and the progressive slowdown of Windows, only cure is to reboot and retest capture speed. Frequent defrags also help, even if Windows says you don't need them, with 4Gb files there will be fragmentation and this slows down playback (or kills it).
What lets Studio down is it's size it just does too much, big projects have to be broken down and rendered as chapters, then spliced together otherwise the project has too many edits and this is what seems to eat resource. Doing this I have no problems building 2 Hour DVD projects on a 1Gb RAM 2.33Ghz P4 even with the Windows XP virus running it. Besides which I'm finding it easier to edit 10 - 15 minute chapters.
I have tried others but they don't have the editing features and no I' just have the basic Studio 9 and the Dolby 5.1 plug in (6.00). Can't think why I'd pay out for the expensive plug-ins unless I go into broadcasting or dong more than family videos for now I'll stick to Studio and it's foibles.
Pinnacle 9 July 8, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Pinnacle seem to have at last got the bugs out of the program and I find it more stable than later versions. It runs well on my old PC although rendering the finished film takes a long time. The displays are easy to navigate and I enjoy editing my home movies using it.
Avoid this dreadful software October 12, 2006 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I spent many hours trying to use Pinnacle Studio to edit & produce simple home videos, without success. It looks the part but is unstable and a very frustrating waste of time and money.
Buy an alternative December 20, 2005 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
I have used a few different Video Editing programs and am now using Adobe Premier Pro. I bought Pinnicle when I first started making videos and read the reviews and looked at the features and thought it looked good. I was wrong it has some many bugs. It crashes often and the video stream stutters when you are editing which can get extremly annoying nearly every feature on the program you have to pay extra for and if you don't it leaves a huge pinnicle logo on your video. If you don't want to spend loads and buy a program like adobe then buy Cyberlink or something like that. Do not buy Pinnicle though it is a waste of money unless you enjoy being ripped off.
TROUBLE SHOOTING November 9, 2005 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
The programme is very user friendly and I think that I know the basics of it, but unfortunately since I bought the programme in May -June 2004, I only expierienced problems. I managed with great effort to put about 5 projects together. After upgrading my computer to the maximum (1Gb Ram etc.), I just can not complete one single project. I spent an enormous amount of money on people attending to my problems with no results. Today Nov,7 2005, I visited one of the leading computer stores in Cape Town, South Africa, who also happen to sell Pinnacle Studio. After explaining to the salesmen my problem, he tried to enter his Pinnacle Studio on his PC and to no surprise to myself, his computer also just hanged up. His only comment was that I rather switch to a programme that does not use up as much recources as Pinnacle. I indicated to him that if necessary, I am prepared to buy an even more powerfull PC, but he also felt that that is not going to solve my problem. My main problem is that I only put footage of about 10 mins. together when the porgramme tells me that "Pinnacle Studio has an error and the programme will be shut down." At least the programme appologise for the "inconvenience" of loosing all the work you have done so far. Does anybody know of anybody in South Africa (Cape Town) that could help me with my problem? PLEASE come to my rescue. Or can somebody at Pinnacle put me onto the right track? I am in urgent need to finalise a project of a tour of Africa that we completed in August this year already. Thanks.
