Was OK on a mobile phone... September 14, 2008 2 out of 15 found this review helpful
This is rubbish. Utter and complete rubbish. I'll tell you why:
Firstly, it was difficult to install on my computer. The auto-install doesn't start - I had to launch it manually - and then it doesn't complete properly, leaving me with a `ghost' application in the taskbar and no icon on the desktop. So even getting the thing to run was a trial.
Secondly, the gameplay. What gameplay? This is no better than a version I had on a mobile phone! Where are the fantastic graphics and the strategic battles it talks about? The graphics are terrible: I kept losing my explorers in the woods because I couldn't see the tiny figures amongst the enormous trees. I would go as far as to say that the illustrations on the packaging (which are presented as if they were screen-shots) are deceptive. And as for the battles: I don't call dragging a box around a bunch of soldiers to select them, and then right clicking to launch them at a bunch of enemy soldiers particularly strategic! The gameplay is boring and uninteresting.
Thirdly, and this is my biggest complaint, it broke my computer! After I had finally figured out how to get out of the game (not easy in itself), I found I was unable to shut down the computer. It just hung in the `Windows is closing down' screen. And after a forced restart (I had to pull the plug on it!), it wouldn't run properly, refusing to launch any applications. I had to roll it back using a system restore to get it working again.
So in summary: if you want to pay a lot to strain your eyes, get bored, and break your computer, then buy this game. Otherwise, buy something cheaper and better. Civilization maybe?
Great game August 22, 2008 8 out of 12 found this review helpful
This is a big improvement over previous versions. I bought it to use on my Vista laptop as Amazon say it works on Vista. believe me it does not. A pity Amazon can't get its facts right.
