5 out of 5 stars It really does deliver on its promises   September 25, 2008

Read the product description. It promises that its extremely comfortable and very precise on all surfaces.

Microsoft dont break any promises here!
Its a brilliant product that has solved the hand problems i used to have with using the computer mouse.

    Highly recommend you get this.

1 out of 5 stars Not for everyone!   April 10, 2008

This mouse had got many 5/4 star reviews so I didn't think I could go wrong. Unfortunately it doesn't suit me at all - and you may find the same so give the simple matter of what you like in a mouse some thought - after all it's still a very important part of interfacing with your computer and you may use it for many hours every day.

You can read why other people like this mouse in their reviews. So let me tell you why I don't like it:

    1. It feels cheap. I know plastic rules in the world of computers but I'd at least like the bit I spend a lot of time actually touching to feel like a quality product. This certainly doesn't - it's made of thin uninspiring plastic very much on the tacky side.

    2. It's also very light - a point allied to the one above. I like a mouse to feel much more solid and substantial than this - your preferences may be different but have you ever actually considered it? There doesn't even seem to be a way to open up this mouse to pack it with plasticine (which I've done before with a light mouse!) to make it heavier.

    3. It's also too big and high for me. I certainly don't find it comfortable at all. The size means that, for me, my hand is pushed back at an odd angle rather than sitting parallel to the desk. Just try sitting in front of your computer with your mouse arm resting on the desk. Ideally I like a mouse to be small enough to sit nicely under my hand without forcing it back. Yes you can use a wrist support - but I hate those. Anyway I find that after using this mouse for some time I get an ache in my wrist whether I use the support or not.

On the positive side, if the ergonomics of this mouse actually suit you, I agree with many of the points about the actual software interface of the mouse. I like the feel of the wheel and the ease of use of the side button (not the magnifier though - I changed it to a 'back' shortcut instead). I just wish that it was beter made, smaller and heavier.

1 out of 5 stars Unimpressed - Overengineered and underperforming   May 24, 2007

Not very keen on this at all. The wheel feels like it's made out of PTFE and without any clicking when it rotates, you can't tell whether the wheel is turning or your finger is just sliding over it. This just seems plain odd to me - surely a criterion for hand controls is that there's some feedback so you know when you've done something? (- isn't that why mice buttons click when you press them?)
The magnifier thing didn't seem to work.
Can't see myself using the left or right scrolls since it's quite awkward to push to the side, particularly to the right.
The speeds are way out, so you need to fiddle with these and I can't seem to get a nice pointer motion speed out of it that matches the logitech mouse on my other PC - This one is either too fast or too slow.
Finally - this may just be a fault on mine, most of the time, the up and down scrolling just doesn't work.
I'll be replacing it with a bog standard Logitech at half the price.

4 out of 5 stars Overall, just what I was hoping for...   April 4, 2007

Very comfortable and very precise. I was using a cheap-o optical mouse which I bought from a supermarket at around the same price and I can not believe the difference! I have only just received it but I have just tested it with FPS games and there is an astounding difference.
The wheel does feel a little odd, its doesn't click like all the others I've used and it is a little slow. Although I have changed the roll speed on windows and I suppose I will get used to the feeling in no time. I can't be bothered to install the software it comes with to customize the 4 buttons yet so the one on the side has no use, but I could if I wanted to.
Overall, it feels great and hopefully it will cut down on my RSI. It certainly feels a hell of a lot more comfortable then my last mouse so I am satisfied.

5 out of 5 stars Comfortable, optical, a mouse and made by Microsoft.   February 27, 2007

I've been using this mouse for about a year now, and I have to say, it is indeed very comfortable.
The smooth scroll wheel is much more to my liking than clicky ones, and unlike other users, I haven't had any problems with clicking it down. On the other hand, the tilt funtion is pretty terrible, getting stuck when I push left, and barely doing anything when going right. On the other hand, since I find the tilt function fairly useless when it's working, I'm not really bothered.
The side "magnify" button is very useful, but I prefer to use it as a middle click button and the thought of using a mouse where I have to move a finger to middle click is truly horrifying.

Overall, this does what it should do. It's comfortable to use for hours on end, accurate and hasn't failed in any way since I've had it.
