Excellent value, competent product September 5, 2008 The attraction of this over free alternatives is that it is a single, Sony, package. The result is very easy to use (although don't expect transferring a DVD onto your PSP to be a fast or painless process!).
For smaller files, though, it is handy, and well worth the tiny asking price on Amazon, even if it's just for backing up your game saves.
Click, drag, (encode), it's done! September 2, 2008 I've never used a PSP until I tested out this software for it - I have a Nintendo DS, so I chose to test the PSP Media Manager (and borrow a PSP) to see how it works out for a newbie to Sony's handheld.
After installation of the program and registration of the product, all you have to do is go to the USB menu on the PSP and connect it to your PC's USB and the Media Manager does the rest.
Once the Media Manager has added the files on your PC to its database, the screen is divided in two, top - your PC files, and bottom, your PSP data. Tiles along the top of the screen divide the different modes for ease of use - music, CD, video and game mode (to back up game saves) being the key ones you will use.
Then just click and drag from one to the other! All the work is done for you by the program.
I even tested just how good it was and found: - It's quick! Transfers/converts files in seconds. - It works with MP3s and WMAs formats for music transfers, although ripping is limited to MP3 and Sony's ATRAC (up to 320kbps quality). - It converts popular video formats that work at the same quality on PSP as they do on the PC or a mobile phone - even high quality MP4 format videos from my Nokia N95 and 3GP from a Sony Ericsson phone played back on the PSP. - Even large Bitmap files convert, transfer, and display.
Overall, Sony have done a fantastic job at simplifying everything for PSP users, making the most of its features, whether you're a pro at transferring your data, or a newbie just learning what the technology can do.
Does What it Says August 22, 2008 An unusual item I think, but a clever idea. It does exactly what it is supposed to do, and it does it well and in a fairly straightforward manner. This is not software you would buy because it looks good, but because it does what you want it to do. If that is what you want, buy it.
OK but most people would not need it August 22, 2008 Having set this programme up on my PC I was expecting great things, however, whilst it does transfer audio and photographs to the PSP, the real value is the transfer of MPEG files. The difficulty is that you have to convert them to that format in the first place or place home video onto the machine.
Providing that you have software to convert either TV programmes or DVD to MPEG, it is a useful product, but don't be decieved, you need to ensure that the file is converted first.
Very disappointing August 20, 2008 I've been looking for a media manager for my PSP for some time but had heard that some third party efforts are temperamental at best - I trusted this one from Sony would be different..... I was wrong. The programme freezes all the time which soon gets frustrating and is surprisingly limited in what it can do. Yes it can convert music and video among other things but what it can't do is perform a proper search in your computer for files, so if it's not located in My Music or My Videos it won't be picked up by the media manager. It also has trouble picking up some media types, including some WMV files which it should have no problems with. It's not an overly complex piece of software and has simple menus but this is still a huge disappointment what with its noticeable and often frustrating limitations.
