Ability Office is a very neat, compact suite of three major programs for Windows (95, 98 and NT) that work together functionally to provide the primary services a small office needs on a daily basis. One component is "Write", a full word processor, able to create and modify documents. It includes creation and maintenance of templates (so that similar documents may be created from scratch and then changed as required), access to an online thesaurus, and a spelling monitor. The second key component is "Spreadsheet", which creates and maintains spreadsheet documents, including automated mathematical formulae for ready construction of documents ranging from a timetable to a multi-layered invoice or balance sheet. It can be used to create stunning, eye-catching graphs with minimum work even if the user has no artistic skill. "Database" is a brilliant program that helps organise, store and retrieve office documents, create reports and use on screen forms for record creation, alteration and enquiry. It is particularly flexible in its ability to create exactly the sort of form for recording information needed about customers, documents or resources, even if they are unique to the user. An easy to use application is included that facilitates simple coloured drawing, based on the principles of vector graphics (rather than bit-mapped graphics), making it ideal for logos and similar pictures that must be resized as necessary. Included with the simple installation procedure are several samples for practice, and a short, friendly manual (80 pages) with several practical tutorials on each of the major components of the suite. --Wilf Hey
