Upgrade to 2007.... June 5, 2010 N. Harverson (Surrey, UK) I purchased this product for use at home, partly because my work place had moved to 2007, so I wanted to have the same version at home as at work. At first it is a pain trying to find the tools, but after a while you get used to the new ways of doing things.
There are some good improvements like the tools popup box in MS Word that appears when you highlight a word. Also the ability to start a PowerPoint slideshow from any chosen slide rather than from the beginning of the slideshow is good, espcially when you are still developing the slideshow, and you wish to see how a particular slide looks.
You are still able to use some of the old 2003 tools if you so wish, and I find this handy, particularly the page setup and paragraph tools in Word.
Office 2007 April 12, 2010 Dick Fisher While very happy with Office 2003, many of my clients have made the switch to 2007. One in particular recommended the change, particularly for the improvements made to PowerPoint.
Up to now, I have produced graphics outside PowerPoint in order to create the right impact but this can cause issues when clients want to change their presentations without necessarily asking me to do the work. Hopefully, 2007 can allow me to make the graphics I want to produce, that's fit for purpose and high quality. Only a few weeks in and some things I like, some things I find a little frustrating - as if change has been made just for changes sake.
Installation was a breeze and I particularly liked the way it transferred all my Outlook stuff without me having to do a thing!
But I'll persevere! Who knows, in time, I might get to like it as much as Office 2003!
Value for money? July 13, 2009 Suntwin21 (Exeter, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've been using Microsoft Office products since 1995. Every couple of years they bring out an upgrade - it costs an arm and a leg and doesn't do anything (much) that the previous version didn't already do. I've switched to Open Office from Sun Microsystems because:
1. it's free
2. it does pretty much everything MS Office Professional does
3. it can open and save documents in MS Office formats, so it's still easy to swap documents with those still loyal to Microsoft
4. it's easy to use
IMHO MS Office is for people with money to burn.
Don't rush into buying this! July 7, 2009 A. Riley 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought MS Office XP (1997) with my first XP-based PC, and repeated the purchase with my second. So here we are,10 or so years down the line. I love Office XP, so it seemed logical to upgrade to 2007. My advice to anyone considering doing this is: Don't!! I have a dozen minor niggles with Office XP. Not a single one has been fixed in 2007. But it's much worse than that. Because of the tragic obsession within Microsoft of preventing drop-down menus, all the features which were so simple to access under Office XP have become obscure - in some cases so obscure that I no longer try to use them.
If I had the chance to pay the same money as I paid for 2007 and go back to good old Office XP, I would do so. Microsoft have simply lost the plot. Just look at Vista! I specified XP as the operating system for my new PC, so at least that bit works.
Change for its own sake (and not for the better) April 30, 2009 Stephen Anderson (Scotland) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've been a Microsoft Office user since the very first versions (in fact before they were called Office as such). The 2007 version is easily the worst ever and in my opinion, a backward step. I initally thought that the new menu systems were just a matter of getting used to and in the long run they would be more efficient to use. I was completely wrong in this thinking. The carry on that you have to go through to do some fairly simple tasks like inserting an image from a scanner is ludicrous. I subsequently discovered that some of the old hot keys from 2003 still work but really, it should be easier using the menu system.
It's not just me either, every single person that I've spoken to hates this version with a passion. I suppose we're stuck with it as Microsoft aren't going to go back but it's a real shame that this version isn't what it should have been.
