I first tried vista a year ago aprox and it was bad could not get sound to work, most of my newish software was incompatable, my hp 500 printer there were no drivers even planned ,my scanner same thing I bought a new printer a few weeks back and tried again, vista downoaded loads of updates and its great , not sure its worth it if you have a pc with xp on but its works perfectly now and I have 2 pcs on vista and set up a wireless network is a doddle
with vista , its a good thing to install updates for software too my pc was not happy till I got patches for ulead video software

2 out of 5 stars So you think Vista is stable, try this...   March 6, 2008

Vista looks good, no dought. But once the RAM usage rises to just over 2.2 GB on Vista 32 bit applications crash and IE will not open new windows. Even the right click menus on apps show up half populated; if at all. Painful for any serious computer user.

Service pack 1 better address the memory issues otherwise I will bin this OS and stick to XP Pro 64 bit.

Let see, Service Pack 1 should be less than a month away.

1 out of 5 stars Very poor sound playback   February 19, 2008

I run this on a new Dell with 4gb Ram. I get popping and crackles when I play music after the PC has been on for a couple of days. This is seemingly a problem with how sound is played and is a reported through out the web including in UK newspapers such as the guardian. I would strongly advise against buying this system if you play music on your PC.

None of the additional features on Vista have improved my home computing over XP, I regret selecting Vista when I bought a new PC.

3 out of 5 stars Wait Wait Wait for it   February 5, 2008

I design and build computers and as such i would recommend waiting for this product to iron out all bugs, unless ,as previously posted , you are familiar with all aspects of your computer..64bit systems are wrought with AS YET undefined or unfixable problems, the likes of which are legion. However 32 bit systems will have a smoother ride.
Dont take my word( or anyone elses) for this, simply go to the microsoft web site for vista and look at user faq's to see for yourself.
    upshot is 64 WAIT 32...maybe!

2 out of 5 stars Vista Driver Incompatibility   December 30, 2007

I bought a new PC which had Vista Home Premium already installed

    Things I like About Vista

I Like Media Player 11 Very Cool

Media Center Embedded = Good Value
(picked up my USB TV Tuner Nicely with no other software needed)

Windows Movie Maker and Windows DVD maker Nice Apps

So Vista is definately a more complete software package than XP but then It is So Very much More Expensive.

Things I do Not Like about Windows Vista

on my Fathers XP Laptop I can Download most of the good things from Vista for FREE: New Internet Explorer, Windows Defender, and Media Player 11, which is Ace for Legitemate XP Owners

Things I really Don't like about Windows Vista

I Paid Over 300 for an Epson Stylus Photo 950 Photo Printer
which is an Excellent Piece of Kit. Then when I try to use it with Vista I discover that there is no Driver Support for the Epson Stylus Photo 950 Under Vista Os and as far as I can See there is never going to be any Support

I had to buy a new USB to Printer Cable, and Install the old drivers from the Printer Installation CD but because the old drivers are not designed for Vista, none of the extra functionality works so I have no feedback as to which Ink is about to run out. I have to buy a full set of Inks and swap them about until I find the one that is Empty

Now as you can Imagine this is very expensive and a ridiculous way of doing things

I mean Vista has been out for quite a while now ?

I don't want to buy a new Printer because the one that I have is Cool

I only tried one Game so far: Stalker Shadow Of Chernobyl,,, after updating to the very latest patch and Updating my Graphics Drivers, I can now play quite nicely with very Low settings ,,, It does not look too bad
and the patches stopped the Flickering Grass Textures

This Game now runs OK but the reviews in UK CUSTOM PC magazine show that Stalker is one of the very few Games out there that run better on Vista than XP anyway

    To Sum Up

If I Had To Spend My Own Money On An Os

I would buy a full copy of XP Pro
then Download all of the Vista Goodies Available from Windows Update
and then try to install a copy of Windows Media Center on the same machine.
