 Installed but can't use September 7, 2010

I was interested in giving Ability Office a try as I don't have a full office suite installed (making do with Abiword, Gnumeric and LaTeX), although I do not really need a full office suite.
I installed the software without any problems, clicked on the icon for Ability Write and was presented with the licence agreement screen which I agreed to, was then asked to register which I did and then a dialogue box came up and said it couldn't find a valid licence. At no point was I asked to enter my serial number. I tried all the other programs and had the exact same thing. So I uninstalled, cleaned anything to do with Ability from the PC and re-installed. Same thing. Eventually I contacted Ability support and was given a solution to try, namely download the setup program from their website. Same thing happened.
It says it is Windows 7 compatible, which I am using, the only difference being I am using the x64 version - whether that has something to do with it or not I do not know, but at this time I am unable to use Ability Office.

Ability Office Home features 6 different programs and is very easy to use.
You get 6 commonly needed things plus some extras, a photo and image editor, graphics programme and a vector line drawing programme. You don't need much to start using this software because it is very user friendly, you can use it quite easily from using other software packages, the bits you know apply here.
It doesn't use very much hard drive space which is always a bonus for my crammed laptop, no loss of speed has been noted.
You can also use it for two home pcs/laptops, many homes have more than one computer thesedays so that good to know, add that to the low price and this one is a winner.
The main programmes are-

Spreadsheet - Microsoft Excel compatible spreadsheet.
Presentation - Microsoft Powerpoint compatible slideshow presentation.

Very comprehensive and very easy to learn September 5, 2010

I got this because Word 2007 is at times just more hassle than it's worth, and I wanted a program more like MS Office USED to be. This comes as close as it's possible to get.
I loaded this quickly and easily onto my Windows 7 laptop. The only thing I didn't like was that it changed all my Word documents on the desktop to Ability documents, for some reason (this might have been an option on loading the program, but I didn't see it if it was) I changed them all back again by left clicking one document, choosing `open with' and choosing Word, which changed all of them back again.
This is a comprehensive program with everything you need and would find in the more expensive programs such as Microsoft Office, but it is basic - and in many ways, that can make it better.
There is Draw, which is a very good program for making logos, letter headings, emblems etc. It has none of its own clipart or photos, but using your own is easy and they are simple to manipulate and alter. The point for me here is that it is easy: someone unfamiliar with computers would very quickly figure out how to use this, and get satisfying results.
Photoalbum is perfect as a photo display program: there is an option for a slideshow and some options for editing (for display). But it did crash on me for some reason. I may have been trying to do too much all at the same time!
Photopaint is for editing and altering pictures and photos and for creating your own, and very good and easy it is too. You won't need any special skills to use this and the results you get will be very satisfying.
Presentation is for making presentations and it's really good and easy and gives good results, and Spreadsheet is for - well, spreadsheets. Again, it's good, comprehensive and most of all easy and intuitive.
Perfect for people who haven't got £££ to give to Microsoft or who don't like the new versions of Word.

What can I say, no long review of the different products included in this software because from the off it was BAD news. Installation took about thiry minutes on a Windows 7 machine with an i5 750 and 4 Gig of DDR3. Was it worth the wait? Noooooooooo. It was 30 minutes where the system was completly unuseable - I could do nothing at all. Having waitied the 30 minutes and after installation and restart I double clicked on the software (the spreadsheet), when it finally opened I found a GUI which looked like Ofiice products such as office XP. So i tried to use it and it was slow and unresponsive. Trying to give it a second chance I opened the word product, exactly the same. All I can say is avoid it, download the far better openoffice, you will regret it if you buy this.
Good solid, basic but functional software September 3, 2010

It doesn't have all the bells and whistles and is based on the totally free Sun Open office suite.
The advantage is the couple of extra programs included that Open Office does not have.
It installs on XP, VISTA (yah boo hiss) and Windows 7 without a hassle.
There is cross functionality with documents from MS office, so it reads and writes documents to share.
It does not do the heavy duty stuff that Office thrives on - but most people don't need all the weird stuff in Word or Excel, ie the graphing is much more basic.
The PowerPoint like module will produce a display - but its not on par with the real thing at all.
For the average Home user, SOHO or especially students, its blooping marvellous.
The licence allows use on two machines, ie the laptop and the home PC; or both the teenagers homework PC's; if they can find time for it amongst all those shoot 'em up games and Facebook rubbish.
