| Customer Reviews: Much better OS from Microsoft July 19, 2010 J. Cleary (London) Much has been said about Win7 so this will be brief.
I was initially very wary of upgrading my version of Windows XP Pro on my Lenovo laptop as I have Windows Vista on my HTPC which is a clunky, awkward piece of software.
However, I am pleased with Win7. It's much easier to use than Vista and as stable (at least so far) as WIn XP. I think this is the product that Vista should have been. Graphically it's very pretty, and easy to navigate around. There are lots of cool little add-ons which make it very useful straight out of the box and Win7 Pro has a great networking back-up utility for those who like to back up to a NAS unit.
There has also been a definite improvement in performance on the laptop (linked in to an upgrade of the HDD) which was a doddle to upgrade (unlike the free copy of Vista I received which was a NIGHTMARE to upgrade to as drivers for things like the fingerprint reader etc were almost impossible to find).
Overall then, I would say it's definitely worth upgrading if you want to take advantage of the new Windows 'bells and whistles' and a huge improvement over Vista.

Tried W7 in beta and impressed. Wanted Professional as can run XP based programmes. Far better than Vista and more reliable & flexible than XP

Much has been written about this product both pre & post launch. Little if any criticism has been made and I dont propose to argue. Unlike its predecessor Vista it works really well and doesn't hog resources. The great thing in my opinion disregarding the aesthetics is that even relatively low spec pc's can run it. No need for multi-core processors. For example my humble Acer laptop with a Celeron 1.6ghz single core chip and 2MB of memory runs better than when using XP. All the device drivers installed so no browsing the internet to locate the appropriate ones in my case.
One word of advice though. If you have 64 bit architechure be aware that installing the x64 version might create problems with legacy hardware ie printers. Microsoft have very cleverly incorporated albeit via a separate download a virtual machine to run 32 bit XP. However unless your processor supports this technology it wont work.
