Very good software best security I've used so far September 5, 2010 J. Aitken (England) After removing my old Norton Security Suite which runs out soon I decided to install this one. I have never used Kaspersky before but it installed ok and states there is a 3 PC licence use so I can put it on my PC my laptop and Grandsons PC. It works very efficiently and doesn't slow my system down at all in fact it knows when am using the PC and when am not so it gets to work in the background when there is time to scan things unless I give it the command to scan something such as a USB drive that's not been plugged in before that my mate brings over for example.
On scanning my system I actually found 4 Trojans that had crept in somehow. I clicked on the protection
State tab and Neutralize all but no confirment was given so I don't know if these things are still in action on my PC or what. A day or two later I found that these Trojans are still present so I don't know what's going on here. After pressing Neutralize again I wiped clear the list of the four Trojans to see if it comes up again later. Upon installing it took 5 hours to do a full system scan so it looks like I will have to rescan it all again immediately to see if the Trojans show up again. Right I got rid of them but I thought the software would at least confirm this so I don't have to check again. The Virtual Keyboard feature is a good idea when inputting passwords and stuff eps when banking on line, anything that keeps us more secure the better, this is probably one of the programs strongest points. As I can't always rely on windows system restore to restore everything all of the time its nice that this software will do that too as a back-up tool. The Safe run for websites feature gives you even more protection when inputting sensitive info. So far been using this for a week with no major problems am glad apart from the confirmation thing.
The Best Home Solution September 5, 2010 M. G. Chisholm (UK) This is the third Kaspersky Internet Security program I have used on the same PC, having already previously installed 2009 and 2010 versions.
The best thing you can say about Kaspersky is that you can't say very much. By that I mean it runs in the background without sucking up resources noticeably to the point where you forget you have an anti virus program until it pops up to let you know something may need checking.
The interface is similar to the older versions with a slight modernisation to keep it looking current. There's nothing that isn't easy to see up front and all settings are done on install and you are guided through the process. You can leave the program to set itself up or you can change to your specific requirements. I just let it set up as per its default as I've found that the other versions seem to work perfectly well as Kaspersky intended.
I have found that programs such as Norton or McAfee are almost as bad as getting a virus or a Trojan. With Kaspersky on a now low-mid range computer I have never had any issues or slowing down to any level where I noticed it. The same applies to my other much higher spec computers that I use this 3 licence program for.
Does it work? Well in three years of using various versions of Kaspersky on the same computer I have not had any virus', Trojans or other nefarious bits of software causing havoc on my PC. Of course, you can't prove a negative, but this 2011 Kaspersky is an upgrade and I have absolute confidence that it will continue to perform well. Certainly for home use I don't believe that there is a better security suit available.
Does a great job. September 4, 2010 Mr. P. Tanner I have never been a user of this brand before, but I had heard all the good things. This IS a great Internet Security package. I am not a tech savvy user so my review is based on what I notice it does and doesn't do over other software I have used and reviewed. I play and surf in the knowledge that it does catch those mnasties before they get through.
I intentionally directed my browser to a couple of site which I know to be "iffy" and the software immediately pointed to a potential problem. I then tried to run a video from the site and it again it isolated a problem part of the video which was identified as a trojan, which was then sent to quaratine.
The scan is quick and effective and the firewall is un-noticeable as it quietly does it's thing. There are the usually settings which allow the more advanced user to set everything to their liking. It even adds a widget on your desktop which is colour coded to easily keep you informed of any issues, this is removeable if you don't want it.
Essentially I am a plug and play user and this simply works. I am VERY impressed.
Disappointing compared to previous years. September 2, 2010 H (East Anglia) I upgraded to this version from the previous year's product (exactly the same but "2010") and have been disappointed with its performance overall. Once installed, the update process takes much longer and seems to fail frequently so my PC's are running slowly for ~ 30 mins every time they get turned on (which really annoys the kids with their limited computer time). Often they are unprotected after this long wait and you have to start again (more slowness while the entire download is repeated). The set-up of parental controls for a new user was also less intuitive (in my opinion) than before.
Going the Norton way? September 1, 2010 Mark Webb (Chorley,UK) I use Kasperky Internet Security 2010 on one of my computers and it works well, if a little confusingly laid out onscreen and offers good security with plenty of features. So I was keen to try the latest version. Sadly it seems I have been disappointed in what I have found.
The interface is small and neat at first sight but trying to delve down to access the more arcane features is difficult and confusing with a plethora of sub menus and screens often covering overlapping issues and protection options. The interface itself when on screen is a dull and listless green and whilst I don't want a busy and memory hogging display I would like something that is reasonably attractive to look at with easy to identify icons.
No problems with the security it offers. Kaspersky has always been at the top of the list of effective security suites and offers every type of online security you could need and then some. Therein lies the problem. Norton Utilities, perhaps the market leader in PC security, only recently pulled it self back from the brink as users left the product in droves owing to the system slowdowns caused by a mass of poorly coded features and unnecessary options. I should hate to see Kaspersky go the same way and throw away their own user base in an effort to cram more unneeded features into their already fully specced security suite.
I am now going to uninstall Kaspersky and either return to Norton Internet Security 2010 - 1 User 3 Computers (PC CD) or very probably the free, lightweight and surprisingly powerful Microsoft Security Essentials
The Good
Offers first rate level of protection at all levels
Well priced as it covers three machines
Easy and quick to install
The Bad
Slows down the system slightly
Annoying upgrade procedure
Showing signs of feature bloat
dull and boring interface
Rival products are cheaper or free
