1 out of 5 stars Sending this back to Amazon   May 27, 2008

I'm running this on Mac OS X (leopard) - sure it installs itself and then does nothing. If you are accustomed to the intuitive nature of Mac applications...you won't find it here. This is your worst nightmare...a Windows app running on your Mac.

It is unable to pull files from iPhoto which means (as far as I can see) you have to convert to jpg and export them to your desk top to use them. More data loss! An attempt to do access you iPhoto file generates an error message (the first I've seen on my Mac!). This also means that the vaunted organisation features of this software are useless. The online help? That's for Windows users....not a word about Mac. Search for "iPhoto" via online help and no results are found. There is nothing in the provided "Getting Started Guide" (this is more a brochure of features than any useful how to guide) about the Mac integration or iPhoto. If you are thinking...."this Adobe Photoshop software is going to be really complicate to use..." then you are spot on! It's useless.

    5 out of 5 stars Great!.But one small bug.   May 17, 2008

Having used P/shop CS on my laptop for a couple of years i was reluctant to buy what thought was a cut down version for my iMac.I wasn't disappointed.
Apart from the lack of quick mask(which may be hiding in there somewhere),and a slight glitch in the display when re-sizing certain files,it's near perfect for the digital photographer.Even the sharpen filter has improved hugely.
For the price, there's nothing else comes close.
    Well done Adobe!.

4 out of 5 stars Most of the functionality of Photoshop. Messy installation and non-standard interface   April 11, 2008

When you compare the price of Elements to that of the full Photoshop, you have to conclude that Elements is excellent value for money. Elements must have around 80% of the functionality of Photoshop for about a tenth of the price.

What you don't get are layer masks, channels, paths, colour range selection, and CMYK colour mode. However, Elements has a great set of tools for correcting colour and tone (including adjustment layers), and all the filters, brushes and selection tools that you expect. It comes with Adobe Camera Raw, which is excellent, as are the options for converting to black and white, correcting camera distortion, and previewing changes to selections. Elements supports a large range of file formats and is compatible with files made in Photoshop.

I do have some complaints - not about the features, but rather the installation and interface. Elements uses an installer which installs applications and creates folders without giving you any choice. For example, Adobe Stock Photos installs even though Adobe has discontinued this service; you have to download an uninstaller to get rid of it. My other complaint is, instead of running in a window that you can move and resize like other Mac applications, Elements fills your screen and is fixed in place. Neither am I keen on docking palettes into bins - it seems to leave less room for your images.

Elements falls short of the elegance of my other Mac applications, but has an excellent set of features.

5 out of 5 stars Great Elements Update for Mac   April 3, 2008

Since I switched from a PC to a new Mac in December and still using Elements 5 on my PC I was looking for an equivelent.
As version 4 for Mac had been out for some time I thought I would wait for an update arriving and kept browsing Amazon until I found a pre-order date for March now extended to April.
I checked Adobe UK site and found I could also pre-order from them and found to my amazement a great discount deal as I had registered my previous copy of Elements 5 PC which I bought from Amazon.

I downloaded a trial PC copy and found more improvements in Elements 6, receiving my copy of Elements 6 Mac on the 28th March I was a bit concerned of the installation problems another reviewer had and inserted the disc and was asked for my Mac admin details and these were rejected and I was unable to load the Adobe disc. When I checked for Mac website for updates I was unable to load these as admin details were also rejected.
However I had just purchased the book "Mac OSX Leopard Edition" from Amazon and following the instruction on page 485 I was quickly able to restore admin password and install Elements which upgraded itself with a lot of CS3 files as well.
This was a fault created by a previous update Leopard patch and nothing to do with Adobe Elements disc.
All in all I am very happy with Elements 6 for Mac and glad I shop at Amazon as they group things you may be interested in that you never knew about.

    5 out of 5 stars Yes, definetely a no-brainer!   April 2, 2008

I have not yet got my mits on Elements 6 but if it improves just one thing over Elements 4 then I shall be in the queue on the 14th.
If you have a digital camera I can only ask one thing... if you have not bought this program, why on earth not?
OK, it does lack the higher end funtionality of Photoshop CS such as layer masks but unless you have a contract with a fashion mag or make a living selling photos you won't even notice and what is there is utterly brilliant.
If I have a complaint it's that, since getting Elements 4, all I seem to have done is buy magazines to try out all the special effects and techniques it allows me to twiddle with so be warned - seriously addictive.
Whether you just 'point and click' or have a D-SLR and want to get a bit more creative you NEED this and like the previous reviewer, my advise is get it before someone realises what they could charge for it!
