Runs Like Treacle March 23, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've just sorted out one of these machines for a friend, and I have to say it ran painfully slow.
This computer is not up to the job of running Vista. It makes a nice machine running Windows XP or Linux, but you're wasting your time with Vista. The only way to get it running Vista properly is to go out and buy more memory - 2Gb would be a good start. You should not need to do this, with a new machine. I'd personally recommend that people give Vista a wide berth until Microsoft get it sorted, it's just a pain at the moment on most machines I've come across
A well priced computer that is let done by a sloppy choice of operating system. If it came with XP installed I'd recommended it to everyone
My views on Acer Aspire SA90 March 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My old PC a Targa from Lidle was out of guarantee and the new Hp printer I had bought would not run on it (My O.S.was XP Home). Saw this one in Amazon and decided to go for it as it had Vista. It runs a little slow so I upped the ram today to 1GB, (Perhaps I should have gone higher) Windows media Player does not work to well so you need plug ins or upgrade Windows to Home Premium, that is perhaps what I will do. Not sure about the performance of the DVD RW yet, I had problems with the software first of all but is seems to have improved. But not a bad little machine for the price.
brilliant start January 31, 2008 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
Saw this computer and bought it becuase i had a tight budget, but dont let this fool you. This computer has plenty of scope to become something excellent if you know what your doing. I now run mine on 4GB of RAM and XP Professional and it is perfect. Next things to upgrade are the graphics card but after all this it will still come under 500! As the computer comes it is poor, Vista doesnt work on most computers and 512MB of RAM is a joke. Spend a little time and about 60 and you wont be disappointed.
Bargain January 17, 2008 35 out of 35 found this review helpful
Was not too sure what to expect with this pc as it has no reviews of yet. However, it arrived quite promptly (even with the carrier misorting it) and it runs perfectly. It is a bargain for the money and it is very quiet. Still getting used to vista but I have had no probs so far!
My only gripe is that all new pc's preinstalled with vista should come with a MINIMUM of 1gb of ram - the preinstalled 512mb is simply not enough to satisfy vista's hog on resources!! Hence, I bought another 2gb of ram from crucial (only 30 quid just now) and have a total of 2.5gb installed now....and it runs rather fast indeed. If you buy this pc you will probably have to do the same; just a friendly heads up. Very happy with the purchase now:)
I only gave four stars becuase of the necessity to spend extra money on ram to ensure the pc runs properly like a new pc should: and all becuase of windows vista, the ram muncher...
