 Cheap, but not cheerful.... March 26, 2008

I can only really give this item 2 stars, and that's only because of the swift, efficient way Amazon have responded to the problem. Basically, my Acer monitor would not stop flickering, regardless of what screen resolution or monitor settings I tried. I checked other monitors on my connection and they were fine. This is faulty and is going back. OK, I know these things happen, and it is only 100, and you only get what you pay for, but it's still 100, and I could really do without all the inconveniance of having to wait in for pick ups and deliveries.......

This monitor is almost identical in spec to the well reviewed Acer P193W (see
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-P193W-Crystalbrite-Widescreen-Monitor/dp/B000VPG16G/ ). The main difference is it has a matte screen whereas the P193W has a glossy Crystalbrite coating which is supposedly better for watching DVDs, but many people find that distracting for work/study purposes. Cosmetically the X193W has a matte silver surround to the screen and a matte grey stand as opposed to the glossy black surround and silver stand on the P193W. The build quality isn't quite Sony level but you wouldn't really expect that for the price- when turning the power button on you need to hold the top of the screen as the stand is a little too flexible so it tends to move it out of place if you're not careful. Other than that, the monitor has a very good image quality for the price (mine had no dead pixels), it's easy to set up and comes with a 3 year warranty.
